Emergency Medical Responder - Full Time Course
OHM Medical EMR course offers fundamental medical training for anyone entering the health care field. This course will prepare individuals for employment in a variety of pre-hospital, industrial and first responder settings with the focus on skills needed to respond to trauma and medical emergencies. Training also includes the fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. Theoretical components are complemented by practical hands-on training, providing students with basic life support skills and realistic experience in the emergency medical care industry. As an EMR, you will be an important role to assess and treat patients in medical and trauma emergencies.
Completion of this course allows students to apply for licensing with the B.C. Emergency Medical Licensing Board for the Emergency Medical Responder level and can be used to help gain employment with fire departments throughout British Columbia or as an on-ambulance EMR with the BC Ambulance Service. This course meets the Paramedic Association of Canada National Occupational Competency Profile for the practitioner level of emergency medical responder (EMR).

Textbooks and Required Pre-Readings
- All students must purchase the required textbooks and must have them on hand for reference during class.
- Emergency Medical Responder: A Skills Approach (CDN Edition)
Licensing as an EMR
- Learners who have completed the OHM EMR Program and have certified must license with the Emergency Medical Association Licensing Board in order to work as an EMR in BC. Learners have one year after their EMR class completion date to pass their licensing exams.
- Learners who miss the one year deadline to license and who completed the EMR Program within three years must complete the OHM EMR Accelerated course before re-applying for licensure.

- Transferring Your License to Other Provinces
